Mechanism Of Action: Metformin is an oral hypoglycemic agent that belongs to the biguanide family. It is administered orally for lowering blood glucose concentrations in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). It decreases hepatic glucose production, decreases GI glucose absorption and increases target cell insulin sensitivity.
Dose:
Adult and Child over 10yrs: 500mg with breakfast for at least one week, then 500 mg b.d for at least one week, then 500mg t.i.d or 850mg every 12 hours with or after food. Maximum dose of 2g a day.
