Active Ingredients: Sulfadoxine 500mg; Pyrimethamine 25mg
Indications: It is used as a treatment and preventive measure against malaria, Intermittent Preventive Treatment ( IPT) of malaria in pregnant women during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy.
Due to it’s side effects, it is no longer recommended as a routine preventive, but only to treat serious malaria infections or to prevent them in areas where other drugs may not work.

Mechanism Of Action: Sulfadoxine is an ultra-long-lasting sulfonamide used in combination with pyrimethamine an antiparasitic agent, to treat malaria.
Sulfadoxine competitively inhibits dihydropteroate synthase, interfering with folate synthesis. Pyrimethamine interferes with the regeneration of tetrahydrofolic acid from dihydrofolate by competitively inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase. Tetrahydrofolic acid is essential for DNA and RNA synthesis in many species, including protozoa.
Dose:
By weight: 5-10kg- ½ tablet; 11-20kg- 1 tablet; 21-30kg- 1 ½ tablet; 31-45kg- 2 tablets; > 45kg: 3 tablets.
